Snacks to satisfy luteal phase (pre period) cravings!

During the luteal phase, your body needs extra calories to support hormonal changes and increased metabolism. This can lead to cravings if you aren’t eating enough.

These are some luteal phase snacks I’ve been loving! They’re satisfying, hormone supportive and taste soo good.

✨Chickpea cookie dough with dark chocolate - B6 from chickpeas can boost progesterone. Dark chocolate contains magnesium which can ease PMS-related anxiety.

✨Kiwi, dates & tahini - kiwi for vitamin C which can also help promote progesterone production. Dates satisfy sweet cravings without blood sugar spikes + add fiber (still eat in moderation). Tahini = sesame seeds for seed cycling.

✨Chocolate banana ice cream - bananas also contain B6, pecans add healthy fats to keep blood sugar stable, and cacao has iron which can be depleted during your period. Recipe on my website!

✨Raw carrot salad with sunflower seeds - carrots contain unique fiber that helps bind excess estrogen and sunflower seeds for seed cycling.

✨Tahini toast with boiled egg and drizzle of olive oil - tahini for seed cycling, eggs contain protein for satiety and drizzle of olive oil for healthy fats.

✨Banana oat cookies - bananas are rich in potassium and magnesium which can soothe PMS pain, cinnamon for blood sugar and dark chocolate for iron (and the soul).

✨Red bean dip with seed crackers - red beans are high in iron to replenish stores due to blood loss on your period. Seed crackers are less processed than regular ones. I like Mary’s crackers.

✨Boiled eggs with pumpkin seed pesto - eggs for protein to balance blood sugar and choline to support liver detox. Pumpkin seeds to incorporate seed cycling, they’re an amazing source of zinc which can help reduce cramping and boost immune system.

✨Cherries, walnuts & dark chocolate - cherries for antioxidants and melatonin to help sleep, walnuts = omegas 3s for mood and inflammation and dark chocolate for iron and magnesium.

Never thought I’d see the day that I had clear skin in my luteal.

Here’s what actually helped:

✔️ Dandelion tea - supports liver detox to help clear excess estrogen. Not the best taste but so worth it in my opinion.

✔️ Raw carrot salad - contains a unique fiber that helps bind to excess estrogen and eliminate it from the body. I love Organic Olivia’s recipe.

✔️ Wholesome desserts > processed sugars - blood sugar spikes are more common before your period. Instead of processed sugars when you have cravings, try desserts sweetened with dates or bananas that will keep blood sugar steady.

✔️ Cruciferous veggies - rich in DIM and fiber to support liver detox. Think broccoli, cauliflower, Brussels sprouts. Best cooked (steam or roast) and literally go with everything.

✔️ Turmeric & ginger - contain anti-inflammatory properties. Sometimes I make shots but also amazing as tea. My personal fave way to support skin pre period. Bonus: helps reduce puffiness.

✔️ Broccoli sprouts - these are rich in sulforpahane, a powerful compound that supports liver detox and reduces inflammation — both key for clearer skin. I throw them on absolutely everything in my luteal phase.

We are exposed to so many EDCs (endocrine disrupting chemicals) every day that can interfere with our body’s delicate hormone rhythm.

Starting with small kitchen swaps can help you reduce your toxic load and get back to balance:

✅ Mason jars - Plastics contain some of the highest levels of EDCs that can leach into food and end up in your bloodstream. Glass instead of plastic is such an easy but powerful swap you can make to support your hormones. You can buy them at the dollar store or even better, reuse jars from store bought pasta sauces and pestos.

✅ Filtered water jug - Tap water can contain chlorine, pesticides and toxic heavy metals. I love a good quality filter like @Santevia because it removes 99% chlorine, fluoride and lead and adds minerals such as magnesium, calcium and potassium which are essential for hormone balance.

✅ Non toxic dish soap - If you’re like me and you love to cook and bake, you’re probably always doing dishes. Conventional dish soaps contain tons of chemicals that are absorbed through your skin, can create toxic burden overtime and yep, throw off your hormones.

✅ Non toxic dish pods - Even though dishwashing is hands off, residue from conventional pods can still remain on your dishes.
Also, just smelling them feels illegal to me lol, so I stick with non-toxic ones for peace of mind.

✅ Reusable produce bags - Again, ditching plastics whenever possible reduces EDC exposure. Plus, these are just so much cuter.

✅ Stainless steel, cast iron and PFA/PFOA free pans - non stick pans often contain PFAs and PFOAs, types of endocrine disruptors. I’ve been using GreenPan for years now (I need new ones) because they’re PFA/PFOA free. I also like stainless steel which is naturally PFA/PFOA free and cast iron which actually adds a bit of iron to your food.

✅ Ceramic and glass bakeware - Ceramic is another option that’s PFA/PFOA and heavy metal free. I honestly do still have some teflon and aluminum bake pans but I’m in the process of switching them out.

Low iron is associated with low thyroid, low progesterone and high cortisol, which can keep you stuck in a cycle of fatigue, anxiety, depression and break outs.

4. Strawbs & some dark chocolate that unintentionally melted but was 10/10

5. Cucumber, avocado, smoked salmon topped w chives & squeeze of lime 🍋‍🟩

Cycle sync your workouts - Women’s hormones are always fluctuating and the type of movement we need looks different everyday. Listening to your body and syncing your workouts to your cycle can support energy, mood and skin.

Regulate your nervous system - When we’re stuck in fight or flight, the body prioritizes survival and hormone production can be suppressed. True hormone balance can only happen when the nervous system feels safe.

Honour your cravings - While nutrient dense food is super important for hormone balance, stressing over food is a stress to the body and can raise cortisol. Yes, I usually make healthier versions of cheat foods that are satisfying but sometimes you just need the fries and that’s completely okay. Follow the 80:20 approach, stress can do more harm than occasional indulgences.

Make time for connections - Food is just one piece of the puzzle. Hugging someone you love, laughing with a friend, cuddling your dog all release oxytocin which can reduce cortisol, support healthy progesterone and lower inflammation.

💫 SEED CYCLE GRANOLA 💫

I started making my own granola since store bought ones are filled with sugar and inflammatory oils. When I realized how easy it was to customize, that’s how my Seed Cycle Granola was created.

Dairy free, gluten free, refined sugar free and only a few simple ingredients. It’s seriously addicting, once I start eating I literally can’t stop.

Perfect as a yogurt bowl or smoothie bowl topping, w some milk of choice or just straight out the jar.

For the menstrual + follicular phase I use cacao powder and pumpkin seeds. The cacao provides a boost of iron to replenish lost stores on your bleed. Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc which supports a healthy uterine lining.

For the ovulation + luteal phase, I switch out the cacao for cinnamon and the pumpkin seeds for sunflower seeds. Cinnamon helps keep blood sugar stable which is especially helpful in the luteal phase when cravings and mood swings are more likely. The sunflower seeds are packed with vitamin E which helps boost progesterone and lower inflammation.

Perfect as a yogurt bowl or smoothie bowl topping, w some milk of choice or just straight out the jar.

For the menstrual + follicular phase I use cacao powder and pumpkin seeds. The cacao provides a boost of iron to replenish lost stores on your bleed. Pumpkin seeds are high in zinc which supports a healthy uterine lining.

For the ovulation + luteal phase, I switch out the cacao for cinnamon and the pumpkin seeds for sunflower seeds. Cinnamon helps keep blood sugar stable which is especially helpful in the luteal phase when cravings and mood swings are more likely. The sunflower seeds are packed with vitamin E which helps boost progesterone and lower inflammation.
